Spotify is the most popular audio streaming service in the world, with over 675 million active users per month, 100 million songs, and nearly 6 million podcast titles. It’s free with an optional paid subscription, often preinstalled on brand-new smartphone devices. In this tutorial, we’ll focus on creating your very first playlist!
1. Tap the plus icon + at the very bottom-right of your screen.
2. A new window will show up with options for creating a new playlist or blending one. We’re going to tap the „create playlist” option. For how to blend your playlists, check this article (hyperlink to article).
3. You’ll be redirected to the new screen, featuring the option to name your playlist. It can be anything—something completely random, the default name proposed by the app, or a name that indicates the list contains only specific songs or podcasts, like „Beatles,” for example.
A single playlist can hold up to 10,000 songs, podcasts, and other audios. So far, there’s no information on how many playlists you can create, but users report that it’s between 9,000 and 11,000! So, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll ever run into a problem of not being able to create a new playlist with your favorite audios.
Since you’ve created your first playlist, it’s time to add your very first song to it. For this, in the middle of your screen, there’s a white button with the black text „add to playlist”. After tapping it, you’ll be redirected to a search screen, where you can find songs and podcasts. By either typing names, brands, or other keywords that would help the search engine find your query. Even without searching, Spotify has some proposals for you to add anyway.
For this example, we picked „Nightwish.” Just after adding a single song, you can add more by either typing the name of the next song or using proposals. Each new addition gives you more specific suggestions. You can tap left or right to see proposals by, for example, albums, year, or even similar artists if you want to check out new things.
After you’re done, the screen of your playlist changes. Instead of a lot of empty space with a single button, you can see the songs you’ve added, with the ability to sort, add new ones, or edit your playlist. Below, you can see similar suggestions we’ve encountered previously. And with that, we’re done!
Remember, you can create multiple playlists. To access them, tap the library icon
at the bottom-middle of Spotify.
